Important Tips for Using Trout Fishing Reels That Are Sure to Increase Your Success!

Your fishing reel can be a critical part of your success as a trout angler.  It is so important for getting your line in the best locations and turning a bite into an actual catch.  Since having a functioning reel and knowing how to use it is so important, I want to briefly discuss some trout fishing reel tips for enhancing your experience on the water and ultimately for catching more fish.  Let's talk about a few of these tips now.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when selecting the best reel is its weight and size.  Many people think that you always have to have a large reel with a lot of action, but this just simply is not true.  In fact, there are several occasions when you want the exact opposite of that.  If you are fishing for Brook Trout or other small trout species, especially if you are fishing in a creek or small stream, then you don't need a big reel.  You would generally want to go with a light rod in this scenario, and it is absolutely imperative that the weight of the reel matches the weight of the rod.  On the contrary, if you are fishing in a big open water lake for trophy lake trout, or if you on a big river with strong current, then you will definitely need a heavier reel.  A strong, heavy rod is ideal for these conditions too because it allows you to deal with bigger fish and stronger currents.  Just remember, try as best you can to match the reel and rod weights, and if you do this then you'll be fine!

Another great thing to think about when it comes to trout fishing reels is making sure they are working properly and maintained well.  This is obviously not a problem if you are looking to purchase a reel or have just recently purchased one, but if you have had your reel for a little while then it's a really good idea to make sure functions smoothly before going out to the water.  If it isn't spinning properly or is tight for some reason then you may come home from the river empty handed.  You can have the best lure on the river and be in the perfect fishing hole, but if you're reel is sticking then you're definitely in trouble.  This may seem obvious to you, but I have many friends that have gotten themselves in trouble out on the water because they didn't take good care of their reel during the offseason.

A third tip to be mindful of for having more trout fishing success is to change your line at least a few times throughout the season.  This is very important, but many anglers do not change their lines very often.  The problem with not changing out your line frequently is that older fishing lines cause more friction and resistance, so this can be damaging to your reel.  You may have to crank harder for older lines, especially if they are monofilament lines, and if you are trying to crank too hard and fast then it will put too much stress on the reel.  Changing your line is a simple way to keep your fishing outfit in good shape and make things easier on yourself.

Largemouth Bass Fishing Tips

I want to share with you one of my favorite largemouth bass fishing tips. I have been fishing for many years and when I learned this proven technique it made all the difference in my bass fishing results. I consider myself mostly a fly fisherman and I primarily go after trout. But I live in an area where there are far more lakes and ponds full of bass and the nearest good trout streams require a bit of a drive. I had always wanted to catch more largemouth bass. One day I was talking to my friend Joe and he shared his favorite largemouth bass fishing tip with me and from then on I started catching bass like crazy.

Many people had be telling me to use purple or blue rubber worms (sometimes referred to plastic worms). I had been using them but with little success. My buddy suggested these for bait but it was the way I was fishing them that made all the difference. I had used various types of weights and even bought some pre-rigged worms with dual hooks, Still no luck. This was not the way to go.

What I learned was a variation of the Carolina rig. I generally use Gamakatsu offset shank worm hooks in size 2 or 3 and 6 to 7.5 worms. My favorite are two tone Culprits. Take the point of the hook and stick it straight into the head end of the rubber worm. Slid it down about three quarters of an inch and then out the side. Now slide the hook down to where the eyelet is the only part exposed at the head. Take the point of the hook stick it into the side of the worm and have it almost coming out the other side. You want it to be in the bait so you can fish it in a weedless fashion. When a fish bites and you set the hook the point becomes exposed and hooks the fish.

You want to fish this with no weight or swivel of any kind. Just tie your line to the hook. Be sure to trim it so there is no tag line hanging off. Even with no weight you will cast fine. I usually use 6 or 8 pound test line. Cast to a fishy looking spot, let it site briefly and retrieve slowly.

Now almost all my bass angling is with this largemouth bass fishing tip and I catch tons of fish. Do not be afraid to cast into vegetation such as lily pads and other weeds. Fish love cover so that is where they will be hiding. Since you are rigged to be weedless you will seldom have a problem but you will often catch bass!

General Fishing Tips

Here are some general fishing tips that we hope you will find useful. Remember, when it comes to fishing, learning from the tips of others and their experiences is essential in becoming a pro angler. Always allow your general knowledge of the sport to grow and you can only prosper from it.

Try to use Attractor Beads, Luminous Tube, and flashy things on your rig near the hook to help attract fish to your bait.

If you know that snapper or other large bitey fish are being caught in your area at the time, use strong rigs and put some protective tubing on your trace near the hook to help avoid being bitten off.

When going out on your fishing trip, take a variety of bait with you. Usually pilchards, bonito, trevally and mackerel work well.

Autumn is a great time of year to get out and go fishing. The fish are in much closer, the weather is more settled and the fish are hungry.

Make sure you have no scratches or nicks on your guides by rubbing a cotton bud around and inside your guides.

A tip from the experts: use a new rig every time you go on a fishing expedition.

A great tip for trout fishing is to put powerbait on your hook, and then dip it in garlic oil for a few seconds before you cast it.

On smaller plugs the middle hook is sometimes too small to do a good job so try replacing the middle hook with another one a size or two larger.

Keep a fishing journal and record the day's temperature and how well you did at what spot.

Spring is the best time of year to go bass fishing, when fish move into shallow water to spawn.

After a cold front passes, go fishing under a dock. The underwater structure will provide safety for the fish, and that's where they hide.

After heavy rain, most streams and rivers turn muddy. At that point, head to the nearest dam. Water flowing over the dam is usually clear water and the fishing there may save an otherwise dismal day.

You'd be shocked how many crappie get away from fisherman all over the country after the fish have been hooked. I'm willing to bet it happens to you at least a few times every time you go fishing (and some of these subtle bites you never even knew you had). Here are our surefire crappie fishing tips to limit your crappie "getaways"

TIP#1 Match your line color to the water your are fishing in. As a rule of thumb the cleaner the water is the more you need to disguise your line.

TIP#2 Don't try and "muscle" the fish after you set the hook...unless you want to brag about the fish lips hanging on your hook.(you can sit around and speculate how big the "rest of the fish" was!) Instead,you've got to wait to set the hook. Crappie like to swim a little before trying to swallow... give it a few seconds, then give a quick jerk to set the hook. Once thats done , it is a give and take process to tire the crappie out. Don't ever pull hard. This one of the most important crappie fishing tips you will learn.

TIP#3 I always use a net when I am bringing crappie into the boat. If you get a big slab on your line you could rip the hook right out of his tender lips just by pulling the fish into the boat without a net.

TIP#4 Use a rod with a lot of action. Set the drag so that you can give a little line before you rip the fish's mouth off. If all you get is are fish lips, you might have your drag set too tight. Just loosen it up.

TIP#5 Wear him out before you bring him in. Think of it as a "tug of war" match! You Gotta pull hard then let up.... a reel there..stop a second.. wear him out. You've got to find a balance on your drag settings. You want to set a little tension to tire out the crappie-but not to much so the line breaks. After he's worn out, you can put him in the net without to much resistance.

If you have just decided to learn fly fishing, you need all the tips and advices that you can get. If you don't know about the fishes in a certain area, you can ask local townsmen. You will get pretty much information since almost all people living near lakes and rivers know how to fly fish.

4. Be prepared for running fish - most first time fishers will probably freak out when a fish swims towards them. If you panic, you might just ruin your chances of catching the fish. When a fish is rushing towards you, stand on your ground, lift your rod a little bit over your head and slowly lower it back if the fish turns around.

There are more fly fishing tips that beginners can consider such as the color of the bait, the proper handling of the rod, the length, etc. You must also consider the best fly fishing locations. There's no point in fishing where there is none or little fish around. But these 4 are the basics which one must always give due consideration. Fly fishing is a great sport and learning it is a great decision. But it takes time to actually master the skills so you must be patient. If you don't catch fish for the first time, don't be frustrated. If you have failed for many attempts, keep trying. Fly fishing tips are here to help you but you can only learn so much.
