Finest Rod Building Equipment

ROD BUILDING EQUIPMENT & Accessories: Lets start at the beginning. You have already made the first step and decided you are going to build your own fishing rod. You are really going to not only enjoy working and completing this project but you are going to love the many hours of fishing pleasure you are going to get from it as well.

There are going to be several items you need to build your rod but in order to get them you need to know what you need. So to start with, you need some good instructions. The best guide there is for this is on a DVD and precisely the Flex Coat Rod Building, "How We Do It"DVD. It makes it much easier when you can visually see the instructions and work along with it. It's easy to follow as it's a step-by-step procedures, and yes, it's perfect for beginner's right up to the experienced rod builder.

You are going to find the instructions detailed and actually, there are 20 chapters of instructions so there's no worry that you won't have enough information. Every last detail is covered in depth. It's going to provide you with a complete list of materials that you are going to need.

Like anything, it's often the little things that count. Many of the minor accessories that you feel you won't have need for you will probably find out that they are real time savers and make your job just a little bit easier. A good example of this is the Flex Coat White China Marker. You will need to have a way to mark the blank spines and also guide spacing. This is perfect for that and you won't have any problem erasing it afterwards, as it's easily removable.

The whole idea of building your own rod is to have a custom fishing rod. This means you need to put your own personal touches on in. The Flex Coat Decorative Rod Wrapping Guide 1 is going to give you some great instructions for some really impressive wrapping. You will get some very precise details with a step-by-step guide on how to do the various rod wraps such as Flag or Diamond or many of the others. With these wraps, your rod is going to look professional. If there isn't enough in Guide 1 then check out Guide 2 which has lots more alternative patterns such as the Maze or Thunderbird to name a few.

Once you have completed your rod you are going to want to give it that final touch. No better way to do this then by utilizing the dry transfer letters right onto you rod. You can put whatever you want on it. Perhaps your name or even a name for your rod. Just think you have a one of the kind rod in the world because you built it.

The few things that we have mentioned here by accessories is just to give you an idea of the many things your can do with your rod building techniques and adding the extra touches.

Illinois Schools Celebrate Funding

It’s a rare occurrence when both of the state’s teachers’ unions and the governor come to an agreement on funding. That’s exactly what Illinois Schools experienced in March of this year when Governor Rod R. Blagojevich received the endorsements of the Illinois Federation of Teachers and the Illinois Education Association. The praise was given for the Helping Kids Learn plan, which provides $10 billion to Illinois Schools over the next four years.

Illinois Schools were given further reasons to celebrate when the State Board of Education announced an increase of over $700 per pupil in minimum state and local funding. This will increase those foundation funding amounts to $6,058 per pupil annually.

These investments will increase fiscal year 2008 monies by $1.5 billion. This amount is unprecedented in Illinois Schools. The plan is three times larger than any increase in the history of Illinois Schools.

Why so much and why now? Gov. Blagojevich says that the Illinois Schools…â€have been chronically underfunded for decades. Our Helping Kids Learn plan is not just an investment in schools, it’s an investment in our future, in our children.†Much of the pressure for Illinois Schools to improve comes from the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act, which set Adequate Yearly Progress markers for all schools in the nation. Teachers and administrators in Illinois Schools have been challenged by meeting the demands of lower classroom ratios, testing special needs students, and working in old and inadequate buildings.

Part of the plan will provide $200 million to help districts afford special education teachers. This is the first increase for special needs Illinois Schools have seen since 1985. Funds will also provide for special programs and transportation for special needs students.

Other components of Helping Kids Learn include funds for the Preschool for all Program in Illinois Schools. The $69 million dedicated to this initiative will help provide the support and materials to implement all day kindergarten throughout the state. Finally the plan includes a $1.5 billion investment in construction, improvement and renovations for deteriorating Illinois Schools.

Educators in both teachers’ unions are emphatic that the opportunities Illinois Schools will gain from the increase in funding will go a long way to address the achievement gap and help all students succeed. According to James Dougherty, president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, “By increasing the Foundation Level by more than $700 per student, we’re starting to level the playing field between the educational haves and the educational have nots.†Parents in Illinois Schools are also excited about the increased funds. While the NCLB act still sparks debate in Illinois Schools, it seems to have put a spotlight on education that is resulting in positive changes for children.

88ci Shovelhead goes kapow...?

I had an engine built on S&S big bore cases, stock flywheels and conn rods, JIM's shafts, KB pistons and CCI 3 5/8 cylinders, JIM's lifters, Andrews B cam etc, etc..

I had just over 500 miles on it when...there I was...cruising down the hiway...tick, tick, tick for about 2 seconds but loud enough to hear over the road noise and pipes. Then the rear cylinder exploded. There was bits of piston and cylinder and hot oil all over me, my ride and the road.

Any guesses? It looks like either the cylinder had a fault and exploded and the piston followed suit when it went rattling around nuts or the piston let go and took everything with it.

I had been doing oil changes with high quality after the first run, 25 miles and at each 100 mile marker after that.

Either way...cases are damaged in teh spigots, rods bent and I'm missing a cylinder....$$$$$$$

I have heard tales of CCI cylinder walls separating from the casting causing siezure and broken rods.
I suppose this could be the extreem of the cylinder dropping?

Answers to a Tall and Narrow window?

My window treatment ideas for this kind of window. Set the curtains wider than you would normally. This gives the illusion of a wider window. Make the rod or track around 30cm wider each side of your window. Rather than the usual 20cm. Then when you open your curtains don't push them back as far as you would normally.

Wide window causing a problem?

Window treatment ideas for this kind of window are to not set the curtains to wide off the window. Probably only 15cm at most. Even though you have a lot of fabric to stack back when they open. You can use tie backs to hold them off the window. Another option is to use a thinner fabric.

Another thing that works well to give the window height is a valance or pelmet. Only rather than the usual 20cm depth make it 30 -35cm deep and fix it higher on the wall. So with the curtains not set to wide and a deeper top treatment this gives the illusion of a squarer window.

The dreaded arched windows!

Best window treatment ideas for arched windows. Most folks find this style of window a real pain.

It can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.

The easiest thing to do is so simply fit a curtain rod straight across over the window and hang a pair of curtains. Just simply treat it like any other window.

If you want to work with the shape (talk about making life hard for yourself) and have curved top curtains that drapes back into tie backs, then this what you must do. On the width measure every 15cm across the window put markers on the window sill. Then note the full window width.

Next measure and make a note of both outside straight edges up to where the arch starts. Finally at each of the markers on your window sill measure straight up from the sill to where the tape measure touches the curve. make a note for a these vertical measurements. It's a good idea to make a quick sketch of the window and jot your sizes next to the places where you measured.

If someone is making the curtains for you just give them the sizes as measured. If your having a go at making yourself then (take a tranquilizer) you need to multiply all your width sizes by 2.5 to allow for gather.

What to do with a door curtain!

Window treatment ideas for doors. Normally you would have a single curtain drawing back to the hinge side of your door. It makes a lot of sense to have the curtain tied back. (otherwise your door curtain will end up flapping like supermans cape every time someone opens the door on a windy day)

Sometimes there is not enough room on the hinge side of the door for the curtain to stack back off the door properly. You can have the curtain draw back the opposite way as long as you have room to draw the curtain completely clear of the door.

If you only have a small space on the hinge side of your door and no room the other side. Then the best option is to have an eyelet curtain on a rod with 1.5 X width of the door. This will stack back into a very small space.

Kitchen window Ideas

Window treatment ideas for kitchens. Your over sink curtains should be a few cm's short of the work surface even if this means just reaching the window sill. Also generally tied back to avoid splashes. (your kitchen floor will still end up flooded when the kids wash up after dinner, but at least your curtains should stay dry)

Another suggestion is don't use curtains and if you need privacy then fit a roller blind with moisture resistant fabric.

Another thing to consider if you really do want curtains is having unlined curtains made of a good polycotton fabric. This will enable you to launder your curtains whenever they get cooking smells on them.

Great Ideas for you bathroom

Window treatment Ideas for your bathroom. If you have a window over a bath or shower. Then don't bother with curtains full stop. It will be a complete waste of time and effort.

Really the only practical thing to do is fit a roller blind with a moisture resistant fabric.

If your window is away from the bath or shower then go for it and have some curtains. Even still keep them short and have them unlined. also pick a fabric that will launder well and dry well if they become damp with steam in the bathroom. Polycotton fabric are very good for this.

One last idea is to have a polyester sheer curtain on a rod drawn right across your window and scooped back into a hold back arm that matches your curtain rod. Dressed properly this can look very soft and feminine. Whilst giving you some privacy.

Patio doors and French doors!

Window treatment ideas for patio and French doors. these are great windows to have allowing lots of light into your room.

One of the drawbacks can be lack of privacy on occasion, or the sun maybe a problem.

An easy way to solve this is to fit a sheer curtain on its own rail fixed in the window recess behind your proper curtains. You can then open and close them to suit.

Panel track blinds a really great idea for large windows like this. They are very modern and contemporary. They can be opened and closed by moving the panels by hand or by pulling a cord. Just like a standard corded curtain rail.

The proper panel tracking system is a fairly pricey piece of kit. There are other ways of getting a similar look. I am sorting out some info on this and will put a new article out very soon

I hope this helps you with your "odd" shaped window.
