Fishing Reels For You
Fly fishing was a method most commonly used to catch salmon and trout; however, this technique has changed considerably for the past years. Nowadays, fly fishing is used to catch a broad choice of fish, including panfish, crap, bonefish, pike, bass, and many more. Fly fishing is a type of fishing that involves using an artificial fly, which is cast so that it will float on the water.
To achieve success with this particular type of fishing, choosing the best fly fishing reel is important. By opting for quality reels, such as Penn reels, you can greatly improve your chances of catching the type of fish you want. Don't make the mistake of assuming the reel you use is just a simple piece of equipment, it is an item that must work well with your line, leader, and flies for the best results.
Fly fishing reels are mostly composed from aluminum. You should take your fishing purposes into consideration when buying since it will have an effect, such as fishermen who fish in saltwater may prefer reel with anodized finish to avoid the consequence of salt from resulting to damage.
As previously stated, never assume that your reel is just a single piece of equipment you need to buy. It must be matched up with line weight and rod for the best casting possible. For example, a five-weight rod must be matched with a five-weight reel.
Another mistake is not considering the different types of reels available. You want to familiarize yourself with these differences.
For example:
* Single Action Reels: These are perfect for beginning fishermen, and these are highly favored as they are most used. By means of this reel, the fly is placed on a spool and the handle links to the spool in place of a gear system. By way of one single crank of the handle, you get one spool revolution.
* Multiplier Reels: Unlike single-action reels, they fasten to the gear system and this means multiple spool revolutions with one single crank. The greatest benefit of opting for this type of reel, like Penn reels, is the quick line retrieval.
* Automatic Reels: These reels are claimed by a great deal of fishermen to take away the test of the true sport, its gain of popularity is because of its effortlessness of application. It permits for you to simply flip a lever to get back the line.
A proven method to know what type of fishing reel is suitable for you is to speak to other fishermen. When asking fishermen for suggestions, be sure they fish in similar kind of surroundings like you do, and they possess comparable price extent or allowance for their fishing gears.

Question by Suchimaru S: How to properly use the drag adjustment knob on a fishing reel?
I was just wondering how do you use the drag adjustment knob the on the top on the fishing reel? Cause I've noticed if you make it to tight, it wont cast out far.
Thank you.

Answer by Brandon W
the drag shouldn't have anything to do with casting. The drag system is designed for fighting fish, it allows line to be pulled out. Tighten it and it takes more pressure to pull the line, loosen it and it takes less pressure to pull the line out.
