During the old days, fishing is more of a work or a way to satisfy one's hunger. But today, this is now also a hobby at the same time. It is now easier to fish compared than what people used to do.

Anyone who wants to take advantage of this option should get a higher speed gear ratio reel.

There are also spinning rod combos for those light line scenarios. This fishing reel and rod combo can offer plenty of finesse to the angler who needs it. The rod itself should be made out of graphite, which will provide a huge help when you're casting grubs. It's also helpful for drop-shot rigs as well.

Fiberglass rods are also available in these combo choices. Probably one of the most significant would be for crankbait rods. The reason this particular rod is great for anglers is because it allows them to cut down on lost fish. In fact, most avid fishermen and women wouldn't choose a graphite over fiberglass anyways. This is especially true if they are entering a tournament.

How do you spool line onto a vintage fishing reel that has no line guide or eye on the reel (like some of the newer ones) to guide it on the reel, evenly?

You got yourself a conventional reel and conventional reels don't have a level wind system. Your thumb, in this case, is your manual level wind system. If you spool your reel with VERY thick (large diameter) lines, the line will wind onto the spool fairly evenly without any manual work.

Information On Fly Fishing

The sport of fly fishing has been around for years and years. In medieval times, anglers fished for food, but the sport has evolved over the years to become a real test of skills. Anyone who has become involved in the sport of fly fishing knows how addictive in can be - but in a very good way!

Fly fishing is markedly different from regular fishing. With plain fishing, you use lures and often live bait to bring fish to your line and hook them. When you are fly fishing, you use a fly that resembles a real insect that the fish feed on naturally. The line is longer and you mimic the movement of the fly or insect on top of the water so that the fish thinks they are biting at a real insect.

Casting is constant in fly fishing. You put the fly out in the water and then draw it back several times so that the fish thinks the fly is landing on the water and then taking off again. With regular fishing, you cast your line and let it rest until the fish bites making the bobber sink into the water.

You can catch some pretty hefty fish using either method, but when you are fly fishing, you have the opportunity to "battle" the fish for survival. This can be extremely satisfying as man battles nature for the top position.

Flies are made out of natural materials in fly fishing while regular fishing utilizes latex and plastic lures made out of man-made materials. Many avid fly fishermen say that the fish are much more attracted to the natural lure rather than the man-made ones. This, they say, makes fly fishing an amazingly satisfying sport.

You can fish just about anywhere - a local pond, a lake, or even a reservoir. When you are fly fishing, you will want to go where the fish are most plentiful. That means traveling (perhaps) to rivers and streams where fish like trout and walleye are known to live. The challenge in fly fishing lies in making the fly look real to the fish below water.

Fly fishing in remote places like Alaska and Canada are great vacation getaways. You can plan a fly fishing trip to many different spots including Mexico, South America, and even Russia. That can be a great adventure - much more so than just fishing your local lake or pond.

Chess has been called "the sport of kings", but many avid fly fishermen consider fly fishing to be the real sport of kings. It takes skill, finesse, and a lot of patience to get good at fly fishing. A quiet morning, a small moving stream and the fish are biting. If this sounds like something you dream about, you are a fly fisherman at heart. So for those of you that are new to the sport, here is a little fly fishing guide to get you started. Even some of you fly fishing gurus might be able to get a little brush up here!

Fly fishing is alot more then just casting a line and wishing for the best. Many other things must be taken into account, i.e....the fly rod, the fly line, the fly reel, casting, and finally the tackle needed. I hope to cover all of this here in a very short amount of time for you.

The rod: Fly fishing rods come rated like 3-weight or 5-weight. All that means is that the rod will effectively cast that size line. Now this is not a scientific fact, but a 5-weight rod casts 5-weight line better than any other. In discussing fly fishing for beginners, a little experimentation is in order.

A trip to a fly shop will be good for that purpose, but you are going to see another aspect of the rod called "action". "Action" determines how soon the rod begins to bend. This is important to lure presentation as well as in certain conditions.

The line: There are many types of fly fishing line. All of them are designated by letters like "DT" (double taper) or "WFF" (weight forward floating), "WFS" (weight forward sinking) and a few others. Each has it's own applications.

For the most part, a DT or WF line is recommended by most fly fishing guides. Again, with fly fishing for beginners, the line is the most crucial part of your gear. A good line will cast well on the worst pole ever made.

The reel: This element can mean the difference between landing the fish of your dreams or watching your prize fish swim back into the depths from where it came.

Reels can cost anywhere from around to thousands of dollars. The most important part of the reel? A good drag system that is adjustable. Without a drag system on the reel, you run the risk of running the reel out of line and damage can occur.

As a fly fishing guide line, get yourself a decent reel and load it with some GOOD line to match the rod.

Casting: Fly fishing for beginners wouldn't be complete without a word or two on casting. Start by moving the rod back and forth. The cast has two parts; the back cast and the front cast. On the back cast, the line will travel behind you. Then on the front cast, the line will unroll and travel out in front of you.

Practice this front/back casting and watch the line as it travels. Keep the line in a large "C" shape. When you have this down, start to tighten the shape into a "J" shape. This is THE method for fly fishing for beginners and is taught by many fly fishing guides as it is the main cast used in fly fishing.

Flys: This is the most important factor in fly fishing. If you are familiar with the water you are fishing then load up with flies that resemble the natural insects there.

On new rivers or lakes try match the flies you are using to any kind that seems to be on or in the water. Then match that as closely as possible from your fly arsenal.

It is always a good idea to research the water you are going to fish before you fish it, however this is not always possible so sometimes it is best to match the fly to the insects you see around you or ask a local where possible.

Usually beginners find it hard to look for the best they need to use in fly fishing.  It is because fly rods have different types for every fishing situation.  As a beginner, you should consider the location or place where to fish either in still waters, lakes, streams and oceans.  Then, determine what type of rods is perfect in that location.  The length and the weight of the rod depend also in different fishing situations and locations.  With this, it is very important to choose the right rod along with your fly fishing reels and fly lines.

It is not advisable for the beginners to buy the that are not fit and comfortable to use.  This will make your fishing activity very difficult.  In addition, the beginners should also consider the price of the fly rods.  There are some fly rods that are too expensive.  If you are just a beginner, you should buy the lesser or cheap fly rods and of good quality.  It is not the price that counts but the manner in using the same.  The length and the weight should be given importance by every beginner.  This will determine if he has the capacity to effectively use the fly rods in the water.  The light weight rod is easier to use and manage.  This is most likely advantage for the beginners.
