Introducing Shimano Rods - A Brand of Fishing Rods You Can Trust!

What is a fishing rod?

Of all the forms of fishing tackle, a fishing rod is perhaps the most popular variant in recreational fishing. It essentially consists of a long, flexible pole with a reel attached to the handle of the pole. The reel stores the fishing line and an arrangement is provided to allow the line to be cast and retrieved. In the olden days fishing rods were mainly made out of wood. These days they are mostly made out of synthetic materials such as fiberglass or graphite composites. Wooden poles such as those made of Tonkin bamboo, Calcutta reed, or ash wood are still popular in some circles of fishing.

The main difference between modern day fishing rods and those of yore is that modern day fishing rods are precision engineered models designed for snag-free operation. Great research has gone into developing fishing rods that maximize the experience of fishing. Shimano Incorporated has been at the forefront of this research and development and these days Shimano rods are considered to be among the best available in the market. Shimano rods are renowned for their high quality and ingenious designs.

Question by baseball22: What is the advantage of buying a shorter or longer fishing rod?
I am looking into buying a new fishing rod and the two options are either a 5'10" rod or a longer 6'6" rod, i usually just fish the detroit river and i do many different styles from casting to trolling to jigging and pretty much anything that's working. but i would like to know what the advantages of getting the shorter rod would be and what the advantages of getting the longer rod would be, also please let me know any disadvantages either might have, they are the same brand same price same everything except for the length, both are even medium action. Fishing: How to Choose the Right Fishing Rod

There are many ways to catch fish. A fisherman can surely catch fish with his hands. He can catch fish with a spear. He could even cast a net over a school of fish, however awkward it may be at first. All of these methods can be effective with practice but they offer the same disadvantage to the fisherman: the catch is restricted to only shallow water varieties of fish.

On the other hand, many believe that it is the fishing rod that is the fisherman's most basic, most important weapon. With a fishing rod, your chances of getting a good catch are very much improved.

When it comes to game fishing, that is, fishing for large, offshore fish, a fishing rod is a necessity. You just can't do without it.

If you're new at fishing, a fishing rod will be your main investment. It is the one, essential tool that makes most fishing possible and enjoyable. Oftentimes, just manipulating a fishing rod can become addictive for many people.

Here are some guidelines that will help you select the right fishing rod for your needs.

▪ Shape. A fishing rod should taper off from its base to its tip. You won't have problems with finding a fishing rod that satisfies this shape. It's quite widespread, practically universal. Advanced designs are introduced to the market every now and then, but the classic and traditional is still the best and finest choice.

▪ Weight. A fishing rod is described by weight. This weight doesn't refer to the actual heaviness of the rod. Rather, this refers to how resilient the rod will be for specific types of lures and for specific types of fish. Therefore, classifications like Ultra-Light, Light, Medium-Light, Medium, Medium-Heavy, Heavy, and Ultra-Heavy are used when describing fishing rods or fishing poles to help the fisherman in choosing the correct one for his objectives.

Fly fishing, for instance, can be managed with Ultra-Light to Medium weight rods. Bass fishing, on the other hand, would require Medium-Light to Heavy weight rods.

▪ Action. A fishing rod is also described by action. Action refers to how much the fishing rod can bend when pulled by a particular force, and how fast it will revert to its neutral position when the force is removed. Action is categorized as slow, medium or fast, although middle-points between levels can be found.

▪ One-piece or Two-piece. Some fishing rods are labeled as one-piece, because they come in, well, one piece. They are said to feel very natural for the fisherman, allowing for a more comfortable and relaxing time.

On the other hand, two-piece fishing rods are, of course, more complicated. But with the proper engineering, these rods can achieve their goals effectively well. However, you'll need to take special care when selecting a two-piece rod. If it's ineptly manufactured, it could be disastrous even for experienced fishermen.

When the time comes for you to choose a fishing rod, you really need to know about the fish you intend to catch. Some fish take a few minutes to catch, while others can take many long hours. Knowing this will dictate what kind of fishing rod you'll need. There'll be no room for guesswork and you'll have the best fishing rod possible. Good luck!

To answer your first question, a Shakespeare Ugly Stik rod will handle anything you can possibly throw at it. Available in many different weights/lengths, it is one of the strongest, least expensive rods on the market.

It is called a spinning rod because it goes with a spinning, or open-faced reel. The spool and bail spin, taking up line.

Fishing Rod Types - Tips To Choose The Right One

Once you have decided to pursue a hobby of fishing you must do some research into the techniques of fishing and the equipment that is available in the market. To begin with you must determine which kind of fishing rod is best suited for your needs.

There are basically two types of fishing rods among the many available to choose form. These are the detachable rod and the single piece fishing rod.

In the beginning the fishing rods were made from single bamboo or cane pieces that rarely exceeded 12 feet. The more popular fishing rods were 6 feet to 9 feet long. The 12 foot fishing rod facilitated fishermen to reach way out over the water from the side of the lake or river. Shorter rods required one to find a branch that extended over the water in order to reach out to the middle.

As time went by the bamboo rods were refined and the rods were made by fusing three strips of cane or bamboo together with some glue and binding them together with string to produce strength and flexibility. Then in recent times these rods gave way to the modern fiber glass fishing rod that has grown into the most popular fishing rod.

Modern day fishing rods can be dismantled quite easily and quickly into three or more parts to facilitate storage in small areas and are easy to transport as well. These rods are very durable and offer many conveniences to the angler such as easily attaching a different spool along with the appropriate line in just a few minutes. There is no need to carry many fishing rods for different types of fish. One rod can accommodate different fishing techniques and equipment and the length of the rod itself can be easily and quickly adjusted too.

It is best to choose a fiber glass fishing rod when you go out to purchase a rod for yourself. These rods require no maintenance and are very durable. They are suited to all weather conditions. The handles of these rods can be interchanged and they can accommodate fishing reel and tackle for all types of fish.

Fiber glass fishing rods can be either solid or hollow; both are equally durable and attractive to. So, when choosing your fishing rod you must look for a certain amount of flexibility, you do not want the rod to bend excessively nor do you want it to be too rigid. It must also not be made of very brittle material or it will snap under the weight of a large fish.
Your local sports store will be able to advise you on your first purchase, then your experience will guide you further. So get yourself a fishing rod and let nature teach you the rest.

2 Types Of Salmon Fishing Rod - How To Choose The Ideal One

Depending on what type of fishing you prefer, will help you decide on the best Salmon Fishing Rod to suit you. The two main types that you find are a bait rod or spinner and a fly rod. Each differs in the type of reel that they have which all depends on the type of rod. You can get Salmon Fishing Rods which are advertised as dual purpose rods and some anglers find these appropriate for their needs, althought you do find that the more experienced fishermen prefer not to use this combination rod but have two specialised rods instead.

1. Fly Salmon Fishing Rods

This type of rod is longer than a bait rod, has more flexibility and is lighter through the butt and also the handle. It is good advice to buy a double handed fly rod as you can cast with both hands or with either hand, which if you are going to catch salmon of the larger size, will be ideal for heavier lines, rods and reels.

These Fly Salmon Fishing Rods are generally have a length from ten up to fifteen feet, so that if you are wading in the deeper waters it will give you the necessary added height, or if you are fishing from your boat. Rods that are under 12 feet are perfect for children, ladies and the shorter men. For taller men or in larger water areas they may want to use a fourteen of fifteen foot rod. A good rod, no matter what length it is will be flexible and bendy enough in its length and should be able to snap back quickly enough into place, so that accuracy of casting can be achieved. A fly rod should ideally be quite slender so there is no wind resistance and heavy enough to handle fighting a salmon weighing in at about 10 to 30 pounds.

2. Bait Salmon Fishing Rod

This type of rod should be designed to have a sturdy enough butt end that is favourable for controlling a fish as it fights in the water. For larger fish it is better to have a rod that is medium to heavy, whilst a heavy rod is the ideal choice if you are using downriggers or when trolling about in a fish boat.

Bait rods are ideally heavily constructed but so that is still sensitive enough that an angler knows when the fish has caught the bait. A bait rod or spinner rod will be heavier the longer it is, which is something to bear in mind; a guide of about seven to ten foot is right, although it depends on what you can handle.

Most Salmon Fishing Rods are constructed using graphite, but you find some of other compounds like e-glass which increases the flexibility with no compromise on the strength.

Make sure the handle of the rod is comfortable on the grip, especially when you are out on the cold waters which typically accompanies the seasons for salmon fishing. Check that the guides are smooth enough, centred and made with materials that are rust proof like aluminium oxide. The pull of the fish is applied directly to the guides through the line, so adequate construction of the rod is crucial so you can land the fish.

The ABCs of Finding the Right Fishing Rod

A lot of companies make fishing rods, which gives anglers a broad selection from which to choose, which can sometimes be overwhelming. You have to consider a lot of factors when buying a fishing rod, but probably the highest priority with fishermen is price. How much does a good fishing rod cost, and is it going to blow the budget?

A Good Rod Doesn't Have to Break the Bank

Fishing rod prices run the gamut from super cheap to ultra expensive. If you listen to propaganda, you may think only a very expensive rod will do. That's completely incorrect. Yes, your fishing rod should take up the majority of your budget, but that doesn't mean you have to blow hundreds of dollars. In fact, a quality rod should only cost you around or , but no more.

Before buying a rod you have to know what kind of fish you're going after and where you'll be fishing. Next, you need to find a well-known, quality manufacturer. Some well-known companies include Daiwa, Berkley and Quantum.

One Fish: Two or More Rods

It's a fact among anglers that you need different rods for different fish. Did you know that you may need different rods for the same fish? Yes, you'll need more than one rod, even if you fish in the same place all the time for the same type of fish.

Why do you need another rod? Water conditions change, and you need to adapt. For example, I use an ultra light rod for trout fishing and prefer to fish in the same river 90% of the time. I have two rods. Most of the time I use the shorter rod, but in the spring I use the longer rod, because run-off has raised the water level. With the longer rod, I can still feel my bait, the bottom and detect when I've gotten a bite.

Get a Feel for the Rod

Even if you fish for trout at the same time with the same rod that I do, that doesn't mean the rod I have is the one you should buy. You need to buy a rod that fits your personal style and needs. To do this, you must try out the rod. Does it fit your hand? Do you feel comfortable when you cast, or are you feeling some strain in your arm or back muscles?

Another factor is the "whip" in a rod. If the rod is so flexible that you think you're holding a whip rather than a handle, walk away—quickly. You can't set the hook with a rod with that much bend. Of course, you don't want a rod that's too stiff either. This is why you'll see people in the fishing department shaking their rods. They're testing the "whip".

Stick with Quality

Once you find a quality brand that you like, stick with that brand. For example, if you like the five foot rod from the Quantum Teton series, you'll like the six foot six inch one, too. It's that easy.

Many people do not understand the various kinds of available fishing rods in fishingrodstips.com that exist and the specific one to use in different situations. Getting to understand the kind of action that each rod is capable of can help you make an intelligent purchase and aid in using the right rod in the right situation.
