Fishing is very fun. I love to go fishing but I do not get to go as often as I would like. You know how it is, things like work and the every day things of life get in the way and you just do not have time to go fishing. That is just the way life is and you will just have to deal with it.

I am going to be talking about the E21 Carrot Stix and giving a little review on it and its features. This is a nice rod with a one piece design. The one peice designs make the rods stronger and that is what you want, a nice strong and durable rod.

Another feature that people like about this rod is the Velvet touch split grips. These grips help you to be able to detect even the slightest bite. You can even balance the weight on this rod which is just amazing. It sure is a full featured rod!

This rod has a Even stress distribution, meaning that the stress can be even distributed over the blank.

This rod is made of Cellulose Bio-Fiber blank material making this rod a real strong fish fighting rod for the professional or even un-experienced angler!

The E21 Carrot Stix fishing rod is also very very light. A light rod is perfect for hours of fishing. Holding a large heavy rod can sure get tiring after a while but rods like these, you might even forget this one is in your hand. This rod weighs just an amazing 3.2 ounces. Some of my big rods must weigh 4 pounds it seems.

The sensitivity is also amazing. It is said by many who use this rod that you can feel all the twitches of the lures and all the slightest bites from the fish. I think you would like this rod for that reason alone. A whole lot of other people are talking about that feature that is for sure.

This Rod is orange in color which is different from most. One thing that is really neat is that the rod fibers I talked about earlier, the Cellulose Bio-Fiber, is actual carrot fibers! It is said that the pole itself is made up of 70% of carrot fibers. I bet you had no idea the carrot could be turned into fibers to make such a strong and durable pole.

Bass Fishing Tackle For The "Average Joe" Fisherman

The fishing rod is the first basic piece of tackle the average bass fisherman needs to consider. I recommend a medium or medium light action graphite spinning rod. I advise buying a rod six foot long. This rod can be used in a variety of different fishing conditions.

As you become more experienced you will see the need for more specialized rods at times. I have always used Berkley or Fenwick rods and found them to always be up to the task at hand. You should purchase your rod and reel simultaneously. I advise mounting the reel on the rod and holding it before you make a choice.

The rod and reel combo should feel right. Hold the rod direct above where the reel is seated. If you point the rod perpendicular to your body it should balance in a straight line. If it does not the reel may be too big or heavy and need to be replaced with a lighter one.

Your next consideration is the reel. For the average fisherman I recommend an open faced spinning reel. The key here is to match the reel to the line you will be using. I like a reel that holds approximately 150 yards of 8 lb fishing line.

I also like a reel with an excellent drag system. You have two choices regarding drag. I prefer reels that have a drag in the back of the reel. For me these drags are easier to adjust. Other people prefer the drag to be in the front of the reel on top of the spool. I consider this a matter of personal preference.

Try both and go with what feels best to you. When you purchase a reel you will see a term "gear ratio". They affect the power of the reel. The higher the gear ratio the more line that will be retrieved by each 360 degree turn of the handle.

For line I recommend monofilament line with a test of 8-12 lb. This is as close to an all purpose line that you can get. Again as you become more experienced you will see the need for lighter and heavier lines. I use Berkley Trilene line but have tried all the major brands and found them to be good. They key is to match your line to the reel you have chosen.

I like to keep 150 yards of line on my reel. If your reel holds 150 yards of 10 lb line then I advise using that weight. You should always keep an extra spool of line on hand. You should also constantly check your line for nicks and other imperfections that can cause a fish to be lost.

Youre question makes very little sense but i will try to help you out, you will need fly line, i like sage, rio and airflo, buy a good line if nothing else becuase its the most important bit, also you will need backing on your reel, dacron is fine.
I use gel-spun backing, very light,strong and you get lots on the spool if you know your fighting hard fish such as stocked rainbows and steelhead etc, but general dacron is fine for every day use,

The last thing if youre having trouble with casting you need a weight forward line not DT, also to improve youre turnover use a tapered leader without the braided loop, then attach your tippet to that.

What is the least expensive, yet quality graphite rod I should purchase for freshwater trout and bass fishing?

My husband has mentioned many times the Ugly Stick, yet the reviews I read aren't that great. Is it just a well-known name and other rods are preferable? For freshwater trout and bass fishing what length, weight and brand should I be considering without spending my savings? We have been successfully using some inexpensive walmart pole for years, but ready to upgrade to something more sensitive. I was hoping to get something for father's day and would appreciate some advice.
Dont' know how else to respond so I am adding thanks to those answering. It helps to get some info from those with some experience.

Ok, I know "everyone" likes the Ugly Stik...well, almost everyone. I have owned a few in my lifetime, and I still have ONE...ONLY ONE. They aren't made to be sensitive, just durable. They are a lower-middle end rod. I would par them with some of Berkeley's rods - not all that great at all. The "Double-Howald" process that is used to make the Ugly Stik is great for strength/durability but hampers the sensitivity by a mile! The weave doesn't allow the graphite fibers to bend and stretch to transmit vibrations well; therefore, you don't feel what you should! (Don't get me wrong, they're good...they're just not GREAT!)

If I were you, and I was ready to upgrade a little, but not get into HIGH end rods, I would invest in a Shimano Clarus ($60-$70) or a Shimano Compre ($90-$100). They are a relatively "inexpensive" rods, and hey have a lifetime warranties. These are a more sensitive, more responsive rod. They will come in many lengths/actions/line ratings, but for your type of fishing, I'd stay within a few models. (I'm going to assume that you're using a spinning setup, as opposed to casting.)

Something in the 6'0ft to 7'6ft range. Most people tend to be comfortable with the 6'6ft to 7'0ft range. I would get the lenght you're used to, or slightly longer. For bass and trout, something in medium-fast to fast action is good, and a line rating of 4-12lbs is plenty. I'd look at the CSS66M2 model - Clarus, and the CPS70M2B Compre are both good choices.
