can anyone tell me about worms?

recently we have been getting worms in our water supply and i m unable to detect what kind of worms are they. they are very small, almost 0.35 to 1.0 cm long (most probably not longer than that), red in color, thin, rod shaped (no "visible" tapering ends), a black tip at the front end and three very thin tail like structures protruding from the hind end (at least i could see three, and that too in a big fat worm, these tails are not visible in the thin or small ones). the water is stinky and treatment has not been able to remove them.
can anyone identify these worms. it would be of much help. thanks

They are segmented worms of Phylum Annelida.The size is about less than 1mm to 3m. It can be earthworms or other annelids such as Pheretima sp, fanworms sp.
Do not consume the water which you suspects that there are worms in it. It is better to filter and boil the water before you drink it to remove dangerous waterborne germs.
