Graphite Rod

What is the least expensive, yet quality graphite rod I should purchase for freshwater trout and bass fishing?

My husband has mentioned many times the Ugly Stick, yet the reviews I read aren't that great. Is it just a well-known name and other rods are preferable? For freshwater trout and bass fishing what length, weight and brand should I be considering without spending my savings? We have been successfully using some inexpensive walmart pole for years, but ready to upgrade to something more sensitive. I was hoping to get something for father's day and would appreciate some advice.
Dont' know how else to respond so I am adding thanks to those answering. It helps to get some info from those with some experience.

Ok, I know "everyone" likes the Ugly Stik...well, almost everyone. I have owned a few in my lifetime, and I still have ONE...ONLY ONE. They aren't made to be sensitive, just durable. They are a lower-middle end rod. I would par them with some of Berkeley's rods - not all that great at all. The "Double-Howald" process that is used to make the Ugly Stik is great for strength/durability but hampers the sensitivity by a mile! The weave doesn't allow the graphite fibers to bend and stretch to transmit vibrations well; therefore, you don't feel what you should! (Don't get me wrong, they're good...they're just not GREAT!)

If I were you, and I was ready to upgrade a little, but not get into HIGH end rods, I would invest in a Shimano Clarus ($60-$70) or a Shimano Compre ($90-$100). They are a relatively "inexpensive" rods, and hey have a lifetime warranties. These are a more sensitive, more responsive rod. They will come in many lengths/actions/line ratings, but for your type of fishing, I'd stay within a few models. (I'm going to assume that you're using a spinning setup, as opposed to casting.)

Something in the 6'0ft to 7'6ft range. Most people tend to be comfortable with the 6'6ft to 7'0ft range. I would get the lenght you're used to, or slightly longer. For bass and trout, something in medium-fast to fast action is good, and a line rating of 4-12lbs is plenty. I'd look at the CSS66M2 model - Clarus, and the CPS70M2B Compre are both good choices.

Shimano Compre Series: Shimano Rods Perfect For Saltwater Fishing

During the present times, one of the world's leading fishing rods is the Shimano Compre series and the other models of rods from the same maker. There are different forms of tackles that are used for fishing. One of these is the fishing rod, which is probably the most well-known equipment for recreational fishing. Whether it is a Shimano Compre rod or fishing rods from other manufacturers, these are comprised of a pole that is flexible and long. The pole's handle is attached with a reel where the line is stored. The reel comes with an arrangement that permits you to cast the line and retrieve it when a fish is baited. Unlike contemporary models of fishing rods, such as the Shimano rods, the rods during the ancient times were made primarily of wood. During the recent times, rods are made from synthetic materials like graphite composites or fiberglass. However, there are still some fishing circles that use Calcutta reed, ash wood, or Tonkin bamboo as materials for their rods.

The Difference between Shimano Compre Rods and Ancient Rods

There is a huge difference between recent models of fishing rods from the fishing rods during the olden times. Shimano Compre series and other new fishing pole versions feature precision-engineered designs. What is more, fishing rod manufacturers make sure that their creations are snag-free. Thorough research is performed in order to develop rods that are capable of maximizing the fishing experience of anglers. These attributes are guaranteed when you shop for Shimano rods. The rods from Shimano Incorporated are considered as among the market's top performers. The Shimano Compre series and other rods from this maker are recognized for their unique designs and top quality.

Offshore Fishing with Shimano Rods

Fishing offshore is relatively difficult. The fishing equipment have to be durable enough to endure the strong current of the ocean. What is more, the equipment should be capable of resisting the tenacity of big game fishes such as sharks or tuna. With the Shimano Compre series and the other fishing rods from the manufacturer, you will be able to control your rod without much difficulty. Other than the Shimano Compre, Shimano has other rod models that are perfect for offshore saltwater fishing. These include the Tallus Bluewater, Clarus, and Trevala. These certain Shimano rods are specially designed to resist the sea's rigors. What is more, hours of jigging or trolling will not affect the performance of your rod.

Shimano Compre Features Featured

The Shimano Compre series lead the other fishing rods from Shimano. These rods feature a concept system that is widely known as the Fuji Guide. What is more, these utilize components that are of top quality. The outstanding finish of the Shimano Compre rods include gold inserts and butt caps that are made from composite cork. The quick response rate and sensitivity of the rods is due to the use of IM-8 graphite.

The online market offers several selections of Shimano rods. One of the Internet sites that you can turn to for your fishing needs is Sea Isle Tackle.
